Israeli Forces Kill Dozens at US-Backed Gaza Aid Sites Amid Ceasefire Deadlock

Gaza: Israeli forces have opened fire on Palestinians gathered at aid distribution points managed by a US-backed group in southern and central Gaza, resulting in at least 31 deaths in Rafah and one more fatality near the Netzarim Corridor.

These attacks occurred on June 1, 2025, as desperate civilians lined up for critical humanitarian assistance in what the United Nations describes as the “most obstructed” aid mission in recent history. Eyewitness reports and Palestinian authorities have confirmed the casualties, highlighting the deadly consequences of Israel’s ongoing military operations even at designated relief locations.

The violence unfolds amid a broader humanitarian catastrophe. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 54,418 Palestinians have been killed and over 124,190 injured since Israel launched its war on Gaza. The Gaza Government Media Office reports the death toll is now more than 61,700, citing thousands more presumed dead under the rubble of destroyed neighborhoods. The current escalation also continues to trace back to the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed an estimated 1,139 people and resulted in over 200 hostages being taken into Gaza.
